When Grand-Ma's Cooking Makes it to The Michelin Guide
Le Comptoir Canaille - recommend by Michelin Guide and winner of Tripdvisor's Certificate of Excellence 2019 - serves French 'Canaille' cuisine. Canaille means "old fashioned popular cuisine", the way our grand parents used to cook: classic dishes based on local recipes, slow cooked for hours, served in big portions with no frills. And if Michelin, usually known for fancy / trendy food, recommends a 'Canaille' resto - you know something special is up at this kitchen.
Chef Nicolas Giraud (who also owns “Le Socrate” resto - another Michelin Guide resto) says:
"In today's life, who has time and patience to slow-cook sauces for 10 hours and to make every single dish from scratch, like past generations did it? Well, I do, and I love it."
The resto is set in a retro Paris-bistrot space, with old tables and French pictures, and the ambience is non-formal and friendly.
Example dishes:
- Onion soup
- Shank of Lamb
- Beef tartare
- Traditionnel coq au vin
- Cheekburger with whisky sauce
- Oysters from Lyon (depends on daily catch)
