Why Try Shri Maharajah?
Shri Maharajah is the brand new (launched March 2011) Indian resto specializing in authentic Tandoori & Punjabi cuisine (see menu), owned by the same people who have Cafe Bollywood & Gandhi Cafe - 2 of the most well known Indian restaurants in Geneva. We tried it last week and loved it!
What's special about Tandoori & Punjabi Indian Cuisine?
Lots of Indian restos ride the "Tandoori" & "Punjabi cuisine" buzz words, but Shri Maharajah went the extra step to bring in a special Punjaboi chef, and to focus the menu on authentic dishes. Here's a quick Indian cooking lesson:
- A "Tandoor" is a traditional Indian oven, used mainly for sealing in the flavours of marinated meat which is often flavoured with ginger, garlic, coriander powder, cayenne pepper, and garam masala.
- Punjabi cuisine is probably the most known Indian food in the world, and it has thousands of variations of meat or veggie options, from curries to butter chicken and anything in between.
Reasonable prices, excellent menu
The menu is diverse, and a typical main course costs CHF 25-30. You can request non-spicy to super-spicy on almost any dish. Sample dishes: Chicken Curry with Cashew nuts, almonds & raisins: CHF 27; Lamb Vindaloo CHF 28, Madras Prawn Curry CHF 31; Veggie Biryani CHF 26.
